Google Drive Permissions

Permissions required by StartDeck

The following permissions are required for StartDeck to function:

See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Docs documents. How StartDeck uses this permission: We create document templates, projects (work files) and Content Library articles (document sections) on your Drive, we edit by updating merge fields or adding articles from the Content Library. The delete permission allows Owners and Managers to delete Content Library articles — these tend to be smaller blocks of text (saved as individual documents) that require more frequent maintenance. This is the only use of the delete permission. Templates and Project files cannot be deleted through StartDeck and must be Deleted Manually by the user.

See, edit, create, and delete all of your Google Drive files. How StartDeck uses this permission: We create folders for the StartDeck platform to function. This includes folders for templates, projects, subfolders for addenda and images and a folder for system files for Maps, Content LIbrary Entries, PDFs created from StartDeck Tables. We also add files to folders by uploading addenda and photographs.

See, edit, create, and delete all your Google Sheets spreadsheets. How StartDeck uses this permission: We create spreadsheet templates and projects on your Drive. StartDeck modifies spreadsheets through two functions: Updating merge fields and importing comparables from the user’s database. We also create, edit and save comparables through the use of sidebar forms, which then save new or edited data to the spreadsheet and database.

Connect to an external service. How StartDeck uses this permission: StartDeck connects to an external comparables/subject property database owned and managed by StartDeck and an external Google Drive for templates and Content Library articles, also owned and managed by StartDeck.

Google Drive/Workspace Permissions FAQS

  • While StartDeck requires permission to delete all your Google Docs documents, it will never do so.
  • Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are robust and transparent.
    See our Privacy Policy herehttps://www.startdeck.com/p/privacy-policy
See our Terms of Service herehttps://www.startdeck.com/p/terms-of-service
  • We only request the permissions that are absolutely necessary for your application to function. Note, StartDeck cannot exclude the "delete" capability as our script requires access to Google Docs for viewing, editing, or creating documents. This is a limitation set by Google's API and permission system, which aims to simplify the permissions for end-users but does lead to this kind of all-or-nothing situation.
  • We follow best practices in data security and privacy.
  • We provide users with clear instructions on how to revoke permissions if they choose to do so.
